More About Engineered Floors
The planks are manufactured using multiple layers of MDF or plywood with a real wood top layer veneer). You can choose numerous different species for the veneer which give the planks the appearance that of solid wood. The species you choose impacts how the floor looks, as well as how it performs. These options include:
Oak - Oak tends to be the most popular choice due to its versatility, traditional looks and impressive strength. Over time, oak floors will darken if they are installed in direct sunlight.
Ash – Light, flexible and strong, ash gives the space real character. Ash planks have a creamy, pale design and features unique markings. Like oak floors, ash too darken over time in direct sunlight.
Walnut – Dark and luxurious, walnut floors typically feature distinctive knots. They make a real impact in the home, combining irregular and straight graining patterns. When installed in direct sunlight, walnut will lighten over time.
Maple – Maple tends to provide the room with an airy, clean feel. It is light in colour with darker grains for a distinctive look. Maple is one of the most durable types of species and it will suit most rooms in the home.
We have a large range of different plank finishes available which include the following.
Brushed – Brushed floors reveal a more rustic design, revealing the harsher inner grains of the wood. They create a luxurious effect at an affordable cost.
Oiled – Oiled floors have a natural looking design and are well protected against wear and tear. They need to be re-oiled every 10 years to maintain their impressive looks.
Lacquered – Producing a glossy finish, lacquered floors come in either a matt or satin lacquer finish. They provide excellent protection against daily wear and tear.
Handscraped – Similar to brushed flooring, handscraped panks have been intricately scraped by hand. They produce a luxurious and sophisticated effect.
Unfinished – Our unfinished floors allow you to add your own unique touch. You can apply whatever finish you like, including lacquer, oil, or staining.
Bespoke – Make the flooring in your home as unique as you are with our bespoke collection. Made to your very own specifications, these oak floors offer a huge range of options.
Most of the floors in this range come with a tongue and groove system, while newer floors benefit from click system installation. Both methods are simple to use, reducing the need to hire a professional to fit them for you.
Although engineered wood flooring is more water resistant than solid wood, it shouldn’t be installed in bathrooms. Some may offer a water-resistant design, but most should be installed away from moisture prone environments. They are best suited for use in the hallway, lounge, bedroom, home office, or dining room.
One of the main benefits of engineered wood is its eco friendly design. Stories Flooring is dedicated to offering sustainable products to our customers. Unlike solid wood, engineered planks only use one layer of real wood. This means they require fewer trees to be cut down to produce them. The manufacturers we work with are also committed to reforestation.
